Partly because as a victim he was involved in it but yes he is uncommonly well informed and able to be vocal.

I think his legal team got a lot of info through discovery, and instead of fighting it out ($200K+ in additional legal fees) they settled on a plea, which is why he hardly served any time and hasn't been a target since. I could be wrong but seems like the simplest answer.
