When Obama entered office in 2009 all the defense contractors realigned to showcase environmental technological advancements they could offer to the government. Just about all of them were ignored, discarded, had funding removed.

We're talking amazing projects that could power entire cities like Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_thermal_energy_conversion

Everything was pushed aside and all of the money funneled to Solyndra.
