Students use dead animals for dissection practice, but 4 tons would supply the country for years.
Well, lab specimens have to be specially prepared. Usually in 5 gallon buckets but not 50 gallon drums. So I don't k ow.
I believe the animals used for dissection are laboratory raised and prepared. At least that's what the prof told us when we were dissecting cats.
Ours weren't. We had fetal pigs from stockyards and cats from shelters. Our teacher warned us "Don't pick a fat one," so of course I did--the formaldehyde wore off before the cat was half done.
Yikes! I think I would have flunked if I got one like that. We did fetal pigs too, but from the same company. Very clean.
My cat had kittens...yuck
Not at Wayne State. My cousin dissected a dead stray cat filled with tumors and fleas in his anatomy class years ago 😂
That must have been lovely. Ours all came from a company that prepares them, and they even had either red or blue something resembling dried liquid, so we could clearly see arteries and veins.
Injected epoxy or resin iirc
