I really don't think Maher is Liberal.

I think he is more libertarian. He seems to be about doing whatever you want.

I think his main issue with the Republican party. Is the Religous wing of the party. I have heard him gripe about ring wing in your face bible types.

Could be wrong. But this is what I gather from him.
