What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
How do you all envision the Post Awakened world? What would the society be like? Especially the Tech side of the society? There have been some discussions about this lately and we have passionate pedes on all sides of this question.
We can make this today's suggested theme, but remember, this is a open thread your comments do not need to be related with this theme.
Thank you ..that’s what I was wondering ..if the electric goes out for like days , how long do generators last ? That’s why I thought a solar one with batteries would be needed , if not, two freezers with at-least a thousand dollars worth of meats etc will spoil. I need to research ..I know nothing about generators! Thank you I’ll look up tri fuel!
I picked up a tri fuel (if Natual Gas pumps keep working during a power outage I can power my house & keep it warm in the winter, summer I just won't have AC).
There are some calculators out there to determine what you really need power wise.
This site seems to have good info: https://energytoday.biz/blog/how-big-of-a-generator-do-i-need-to-run-my-whole-house
I figured to get one that would run EVERY electric device at the same time & found a generator that will run everything in my house except my double oven &/or AC if everything else was running too. Luckily I figured for the price from Costco for the one I picked up I could sacrifice AC if needed & also snagged a toaster oven & got some Dutch Ovens just in case. Most of my meals can be done on my gas stove top, so I can convert to propane as needed.
I am glad I can do laundry as needed with our generator & have a fairly comfortable situation for almost a month with the propane I stocked up. I can keep my insulin cold & our freezer running long enough to use everything at least.
My father in law was an electrician and thinks I went overboard, and maybe I did. He has enough generator power to keep his two fridges cold, his freezer going & a few lights.
I figured if we have 10 days of darkness, I would love to fired up minecraft to have a fun few days with kids & that takes lots of power too, granted they also know that if it is really bad our house is becoing a hotel for the elderly & baby's in the area to keep warm in the winter & games are off the table.
Way too much info there, sorry. I geeked out enough to replumb my gasline to power our tri fuel generator a year ago.
If you are only using extention cords for your main stuff you can save fuel in winter by turning them off at night where I live.
If you are hooking it up to your house, make sure you are not feeding power back to the grid or you can kill an electrician trying to fix a line & will bust your generator by powering everyone trying to get their lites to turn on for the *teenth time.
I definitely need to go on the site you gave me because you are talking French to me lol ..I understand babies and elderly coming to your house ..Praise God ..I’m not afraid of winter I’m in San Diego ..my ovens are both electric , I have a big bar b Q , I’ll get extra propane ".good info , now for someone to explain it to me lol thank Q
there is the you can always go to the gas station camp and the propane camp.... seems to be the big old boys discussion... check craigslist too..
Thank u good idea
