A black chick worked at my office and while she was really nice, her boss claimed she wasn’t catching on after several months and she was let go. I trust her boss’s judgment because she’s a sharp woman. It’s a laid-back place so it must have been pretty bad performance.
Next thing you know, the girl goes on Indeed and reviews saying there’s a lot of racism and the small company needs a diversity and inclusivity director. It could be that the girl was not good at her job.
8/10 times it’s that. But actual racism still exists too. But way less than incompetence.
Yes, of course. And that's where the people at the company need to have the backbone to say that (if it's the case.) Because people are too afraid of being labeled something (racist, homophobe, etc.) All it really takes is stating the truth and sticking with it. No apologies necessary.
