Technically a false flag is committing a deed under a false identity.

it originates from pirates literally hoisting false flags of identification.

A psyop or psychological operation isn't necessarily, but can be a false flag operation as well, such as this one, where a lefty tranny is foisted as rightwing MAGA supporter.

Generally FF has come to mean an event surrounded by false information.
