Anyone know the usual numbers?
Wondering the same thing. I’ve ran tough mudders (~11 miles + obstacles) pre “covid”, and nobody was dropping out. Even in 90 degree weather. Weird man.
Several people collapsing is not unusual at all, especially in high heat, sun, and very high humidity (where sweating doesn't cool you down). Deaths are not unheard of. They happen every few years. Not everyone can cut it.
Tough to see a correlation here, seeing as how most of the runners who didn't collapse or die were also vaccinated.
This is why I asked. If typical for this race is 6 and now it’s 16, it might raise my eyebrows. If typical is 14 and this time it’s 16, I’m unimpressed. And of course confounding factors would have to be considered such as weather differences from one year to the next…..
It was a half marathon not a full.
In my younger days I used to run 12 miles a day or more just to stay in shape for 10k races.
I'd never seen anyone keel over during a run like that unless it was during a Spartan race in 95* plus weather.
