Just looked. Active duty for all branches is 17 it looks like. Maybe you could join earlier if you were turning 17 before you finished training? Plus there are always the stories of kids joining in wartime and lying about their age. Those older generations were different weren’t they?
Oh I wasn’t saying you were wrong- just that I was wrong, it’s younger than I thought! Who knows what it has been over the years….. probably has fluctuated. One thing is for sure: An 18 (or 16) year old even 15 years ago was probably more mature than your average 18 year old today.
I knew a guy in the army who was 16 when he joined. Not sure of specifics, but I do remember that tidbit
