I grew up in the 1980s and we had really really high profile people who were shot by crazy people - John Lennon, the Pope, the freaking POTUS Ronald Reagan, and that one actress whose name I forgot but she was the reason we have all of these anti-stalking laws now.
Besides the Congressional softball game practice, I cannot even think of the last time a famous person was shot by a crazy random person.
Rebecca Schaefer? Or Dominique Dunne (Poltergeist) whose father Dominick Dunne wrote a lot of true crime and courthouse (OJ) articles for Vanity Fair?
He (Dunne) wrote a lot about the trial of his daughter's killer as well which published in Vanity Fair. Quite sad.
Rebecca Shaeffer was the one I was thinking of.
