Some people won't want to face it when you try to tear it down. But anyway, most people's dismissal comes from their unshakeable beliefs that:

the government wouldn't lie to me and wants to take care of me
the hospital/doctor wants me to get healthy
the news would never knowingly tell lies ("if that was true, it'd be on the news")
conspiracy theories are just crazy theories, and are mostly unfounded, they all say so

So they dismiss ANYTHING you tell them based on these rules.
