I know, I know.... all sounds way too convenient, doesn't it? But then again, stranger things have happened in history. Like the way John Wilkes Booth was able to simply walk into President Lincoln's theater box and shoot him... history is full of accidents, coincidences, unlikely strokes of luck. We may not ever know (or may not know for a long time anyway) how and why someone would prop open a door to a supposedly "secure" location.
