Ruth was a Moabite woman who married Boaz. Among their descendants are David, Solomon and Jesus.
That demonstrates God can use anybody to fulfill His plan of salvation.

Was Mary one of their descendants or was it through Joseph? In the latter case, Jesus is not from his seed.
Both of them. Joseph's lineage is through David --> Solomon, while Mary's lineage goes through David --> Nathan. They are both from the house of David.
