I feel embarrassed to ask. Was thinking that :) would be turned into a smiley face but that doesn't work. I did some searching but most of the hits talks about a Windows computer. I'm running a linux desktop. Was looking for some sort of links on what the post editor supports but didn't find any such links. Our gifs/qposts sidebar link doesn't mention emoji's.

Unicode is your friend!

Thanks. And how do I enter a unicode character or set of characters into a post or comment?
Hmm... actually, disregard this! I don't think .win supports unicode or HTML-based symbols when entering them manually. Numpad entries work of course, but it seems the only way to properly implement emojis here is to find a site where you can copy + paste them (as solarsavior linked above), or use .win on mobile where they are readily available via your phone's keyboard.
I usually like keyboard solutions over gui/mouse solutions. I know there are some editors that used to allow you to enter characters via typing in their octal numeric codes. Of course handling some typical ascii characters as many apps do would be easier. For instance, I would think it should be easy to handle :) as a smiley face. I guess everyone would see it as a smiley face anyways, but putting in the graphic would be useful.
I agree, sometimes I wish .win had more customization options, but I suppose that would allow for more security vulnerabilities?
