If I depend on a garden to survive Iām screwed here were I live. The soil of my land is very sandy and nutrient poor and the climate is very hot and dry š„µ also I depend on the grid to water the few raised beds I have. Not everybody can afford freedom from the system.
Watch a YouTube video "Back to Eden". Heck with this way you hardly ever have to water. Compost is your friend and mulch is free from tree companies. Don't turn your back on gardening because you have sandy soil. Back to Eden teaches you how to turn poor soil into something which plants love. I've done it on very rocky ground in the Ozarks and in two months my corn is 2' tall. If now I can keep the darn deer out of the garden.........
If you tend towards sandy soil, you will do well with root crops (beets, potatoes, carrots, etc.) Use your food scraps thru the year to build up your bed.
