There are some good videos on you tube about what people did during the depression. Finding and eating dandelions is a common one. But there are a lot of extremely healthy weeds that it could be a good idea to learn about.
You can make a salad out of dandelion leaves, plantain leaves (not the fruit plantain) & clover flowers. Most people have these three things growing in their yard.
Teas can also be made from the dandelion root/flower
Dandelion is also a great detoxifier, if you are prone to bloating ,holding a lot of water weight (if your watch or socks make an indent, that's an indicator), dandelion tea will quickly help you lose the bloat.
Absolutely!! Hostas, the center sprouts can be cooked with olive oil and baked, and they taste like asparagus. All parts of Violets are edible, creeping charlie is in the mint family and is very nutritious in a tea, Day lillies are edible, the roots can be cooked like potatoes. Dandelions are not only edible, they are a superfood. The roots can be a coffee replacement, the greens used in a salad, and the blossoms can be used for tea, wine, or even jelly. . It was a lot of work to clean and dry Dandelion roots, but I found the tea to be delicious. Purslane is a succulent like weed, that is actually a superfood. You can put it in a salad, or cook it like spinach. There are videos on you tube, called Eat the Weed which are very informative. Investing in some books as ChuckWalla advised is excellent advice!
I read the #1 commodity during the depression was not gold or silver - it was eggs! I don’t have chickens as I have no experience but I’ve noted the neighbors who do have them - also the closest orchards & those who have honey. For meat? Idk - gonna have to fish and hunt birds & such 🤷♀️
rabbit and squirrel as well though, as my mom told me, "can both be wormy so if you go there, be sure you cook overly well." Kinda turned me off of small game :P however, I did go look into some vids of people who do hunt and cook such things.
Domesticated Rabbit or Chickens seem to me the best bet for most people, they do not need a lot of room or special feed. Chickens are imo the best because of eggs, what you do not need to cull the bird itself for food. You should go chat with your neighbors!
Sometime last year before she passed away, I was talking to my mom and stated "did you know you could eat dandelions?" She said.. oh yes, I remember mom sending us kids out into the fields to pick them for our evening greens. I was shocked, did not know how useful those plants were! Brainwashed to think they are nothing but nasty weeds.

If you cannot get a local book, start collecting and printing out info from online (to make your own hard copy since internet access will be iffy)
A shtf binder is a great idea! With printables of any and every resource!
Reminds me of the movie, "Into The Wild."
I personally really enjoyed it.

Also get yourself a book on processing & cooking wild game. Having both is a game changer!

The European settlers purposely brought them over to North America so they could eat them.
