A majority of the list is birds being culled due to the crazy avian flu that's happening this year. I lost half my backyard flock to it and the ones still alive have lost a lot of weight and have been acting really weird.
It's not just now, it's been about a dozen times over the last 20 years. It was never really discussed before. The one in the 90s was awful, I lived near a commercial property egg farm with 1 million birds and they were all culled one day.
What causes chickens & turkeys to get avian flu, especially a small number in backyards? Do you think someone exposes them when they are chicks before you buy them?

And of all times in our history to be exposed to the avian flu...why now?

Fair enough...but still interesting timing to have another bout...no?

No, it's other wild birds. My backyard flock are exposed to dozens of different varieties of birds constantly.
