Let me guess you read about GPT3 and DALLE2 and think those are the pinnacle of modern thinking machines?
It's the core principle of how AI works. I realize neural networks are not the most recent advancement, and to be fair that's all I have experience with. However, what's important to note is that the fundamental principle of how AI works means it cannot be sentiment. AI is modeled on how the brain works, but there are still aspects of the brain we don't understand. AI is still all just math, it doesn't have the capacity to go beyond math because it is only math.
In the end the AI will always conform to 2+2=4. It can't suspend its own knowledge and treat 2+2 as though it's 7.
There is also some probability assessment calculation .... which can by and large, based on the input it receives, calculate probabilities .... So, a game of poker would be awesome ...
But this is the issue: people are not rational in the core of their being. And the level of irrationality differs from individual to individual. Add to that herd vs non-herd mentality, or changing direction on a dime.
Man is a very very complex being.
Okay... if you are an athiestic materialist who thinks we are only flesh suits driven by chemicals its not going to make sense. First of all the CIA has been working on a "computer god overlord" since they got started in the 50's. So there have been many decades of military black projects attempting to create this machine god that can oversee their human trafficking operations. Secondly, AI computing 2+2=4 doesnt mean it cant be sentient. Neural networks learn based on adaptation to data. So when there are devices monitoring every human like the internet of things that is a lot of data. Levels of data a single human cant comprehend. We could go on further to talk about how random number generation shows that random isnt so random after all... but the message may get lost.
I have coded Neural Networks. They are not intelligent. The more data you give them, the more flawed their behavior. Getting a working Neural Network requires significant input from the programmer to find a combination that is actually able to approximate the task.
I'm not sure understanding high school math makes me an athiestic materialist, but the assertion sure doesn't help the strength of your argument.
Have you coded neural networks on military grade quantum computers? Look, I know what you are saying, and you are correct if we are going on the mainstream science and computing narrative of what technology is available to civilians. To me it is in the same vein as telling people to trust the science about covid. Not only that but there is an AI war happening so things aren't cut and dry. Look at the ALICE program in Uvalde that the school signed up for. A school shooter detecting AI program. Coincidence?
