Yep. If you live in a neighborhood you'd better begin to figure out who can help and who needs to be cut loose. When people begin banging on your door asking for any kind of hand out you'd better get hard hearted real quick or you will be out of food quickly. Once the nosey neighbor learns you have a stash then all of your neighbors know of you stash. Either begin building relationships with fellow preppers and rely upon them for barter or food procurement or learn how to die. Those two choices are the only one which will be available because once water and electricity go away then it is back to caveman diplomacy. Biggest club always get anything, period.
I live in an upscale white neighborhood with decent people, but if TSHTF I know who the veterans are, who the hunters are, and who the doctors are. My plan would be to recruit as many young people into a makeshift "militia" that might look like a gang. We are strategically situated so that we can control who enters our neighborhood by blocking one road.
A few of us have thought this through and realize that normal civility and charity will have no place in our lives.
We also have a few empty lots here that will make good gardens.
TnBanjoMan, I'm liking you more and more. The responses you write down are exactly how I feel. I'm getting tired of our Government taking, and taking, and taking and never giving back. When our government stops being a government we have the right to establish a new one. I wish you were in my neighbor so we could ponder what that government might look like. (Hopefully without the obnoxiosness of liberals).
Our government lost the consent of the governed several years ago. I think once the entire population comes to realize that... that it's obvious that emperor has no clothes and that We The People have been paying our tax dollars for corruption and money laundering, the jig will be up. It would take millions and millions of us to effect any real change.
As long as our elections are a Third World joke, we'll continue down the road to ruin. But I think all that is about to change.
I suspect it will happen in a blinding instant. One moment all will be calm and people will be miserable in the way of this world, and suddenly someone, somewhere will scream and the mob will turn on its master.
Look up what happened to Nicolai Ceausceau...the dictator had an iron grip on his country on the day of his final speech to the nation...48 hours later he was tied to a post and shot.
It's one of the most satisfying events of the 20th century.
Study this carefully, it's a preview of coming attractions in a town near you.
