It's because most are still not aware that the Congress is one big single political party broken into two facades to make you think you have a choice. They pick sides and pretend to battle each other on topics that roughly divide the nation down the middle in numbers. Then they basically do nothing but put up smoke and mirror actions, letting each side have an occasional victory to keep the facade believable.
You can bet behind closed doors they dine together, share children's birthday well wishes, and enjoy their club that is closed to every American citizen. It's a game and you aren't invited. It's exactly why nothing changes and you slowly, over time, lose rights. It's why they're "bargaining" over gun rights right now.
Think about it. If they were serious about protecting 2A, there would simply be no discussion. The Constitution is clear and anything else is both sides agreeing to restrictions on YOUR FREEDOMS! Same with abortion as a pretend fight to either protect life or protect women's health. The laws are clear that murder is murder, but both sides have allowed it to continue for decades. They don't WANT to eliminate it or they would.
You can repeat this line of thinking for nearly every topic that exists in politics. Neither side wants real change, they absolutely do not want accountability, and they hold no person responsible for any action (like Obama, Hillary, Comey, Biden, Bush, Bill Clinton, and on and on and on). They pretend that it matters on one side or the other, then they put up a good show as if they're working on doing something, then just wait until you aren't paying attention to move onto something else and the cycle starts again. But it has one key tenent....NOTHING EVER CHANGES!!!
The two party system is not here for your benefit, nor is playing into it ever going to provide anything but heartache, disgust, anger and often a lifetime of misunderstanding that those things are the goal. To keep you on the hook but never reel you in. It's a choice to believe the R or the D is on your side. Knowing neither is will at least free your mind to reality.
Congressional hearings are dog & pony shows. People don't seem to realize that congress doesn't have the Power of Arrest. At most they can suggest the DOJ investigate. So the hearings are all bark and no bite.
