Pretty much. You will sometimes hear the term "snap election." When a prime minister thinks the political winds are in his/her favor, they will call for a snap election to try and increase their majority rule.
I believe Trudeau did this when the political winds were actually against him, and what do you know? He picked up seats!
Knowing what we know now, with election rigging, I bet he called the snap election to make it look like his communist policies were actually supported by the citizens of Canada when they were not.
