I read it too. Just watched the movie version (available at the library on DVD) If you excuse the flaws in the production, it pretty much sums up where we are today. With cameos from Ron Paul, Hannity, Glenn Beck, and some black liberal (in part 3). It is eerie in its accuracy of today's USA. (Atlas Shrugged for the uninitiated)
My first read was when I was on jury duty in down town Los Angeles. It was in the dim past. The movie brings it into our "today" world pretty much, and is not as tedious as the book....IMHO

I saw the movie when they were released. I am thinking about reading it again.
