It is contrary to reality to have all opportunities be "equal." All you can really say is that, under individual liberty, you have opportunities. What more do you want? (Under slavery, there was equality of opportunity. It just wasn't worth very much.)
Equality of opportunity just means anyone can grow up to be whatever they want if they want it bad enough and work hard enough.
If you hear the words "equality of opportunity" and immediately think "slavery", well, that's you thinking differently from the way everyone else uses the phrase. Nowadays they call that "You do you," but I loathe that expression :p
Just like there is no equality of talents, there is no "equality" of opportunity. Opportunity is not dispensed at random. It is more often seized by an individual who sees it and works toward it. "Equality" of opportunity is a fable, and a useless one. All we need is opportunity, which can be unlimited.
I don't know why we can't have both equality of opportunity AND individual liberty; they are not mutually exclusive.
Works for me!
