I don't know how good or persuasive this argument is. All I can say is that it did work for the one Leftist I tried it on.
After going back and forth with a Leftist family member who was losing their mind today about the RVW decision, ranting that she's "had her rights ripped away from her by the SCOTUS", I took this approach:
"Your rights weren't taken away. This was the Federal Government saying 'After looking at the Constitution, we realized we don't have the right to say that abortion is okay or not okay. So we have to hand this over to the States'. They didn't take any rights from you, they just came to the conclusion that there's no rationale for it to be a federal issue. Now this decision is made by your state representatives and those people are going to be much more responsive to your communications that a Federal rep or senator will be."
She completely calmed down. She's still not happy of course, idiots rarely are. But she calmed down and has at least a 3rd grader's understanding of the situation.
Your mileage may very. Maybe my approach isn't as clever as I think it is. But it did work in one instance at least.
I don't worry about calming them down. Just let them go off. They are mental children, they will get tired of throwing a fit as soon as something else pisses them off.
So many people (particularly leftists, but even people here at gaw) have no idea what the constitution is all about. The earlier court actually violated the constitution by making this a federal issue. It never should have happened in the first place. It has ALWAYS been a states rights issue, but as so many lefties do, that court violated their oath to the constitution and frankly, lots of Americans don't even understand that because their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution is so lacking. I'm glad your technique worked for her and I hope it does help others here who read about it.
I just heard on Salty that the lefties kept wanting more and more - that they sued that it should be legal to abort a 9-month old 'fetus' and the supreme court had to say NO.
This is my approach too. I also ask why the individual states didn’t do more over the last 49 years to codify it at the state level.
It certainly is amusing to watch them not want to give up the pussy hats and the gnashing of teeth when presented with a valid question that makes them think. 😂
I don't care how baby murderers feel. I wish they could be removed from society for being so cold and evil.
Yea, I've had to explain the same thing to my daughter so she could explain it to her liberal / idiot friends: "SCOTUS just said 'from now on, this isn't a federal issue, it's a state issue`. Now one state doesn't have to be ruled by the crazies in another state."
A bit of clarification on this, folks. This method is really just for those people in your life that have a shred of rationality left.
I strongly suspect it will have no impact on the stark, raving mad Leftist lunatics out there.
And while I completely understand the cynicism about even bothering with these people, there are some who can be persuaded into rationality. We can't ever stop trying to persuade when it comes to the Constitution.
It is a good, and factual approach to the matter. But you take half the fun out of it when you miss an opportunity to trigger a lib-tard.
