Remember, bird is old British slang for a woman; while that's likely not what was meant in the idiom, it does make sense in the context of Ghislaine herself. It is possible that she cooperated in some fashion for a "reduced" sentence. It could mean going through her to get to Prince Andrew. And, based off PA's behavior during the last few years (especially recently), I get the sneaking feeling that if he were to be "captured", he'd squeal like a piggy. He has that sniveling worm / coward vibe about him.
