Having had a kidney removed for renal cell carcinoma 13 years ago, I can tell you that the recovery from this surgery is extremely painful. It is one of the most painful procedures post-op. I couldn't get enough morphine from the pump! Woke up from anesthesia literally saying, "PAIN... PAIN..." I cannot imagine a precious baby having this procedure done with no anesthesia. They need to cut through 4 layers of muscle to reach the kidney, and usually remove one of the floating ribs in the process.
