Confined area training is taught in flying training, not usually urban areas (in the Military I was in) mostly wooded confined areas, mountain and using Night Vision Googles landings at night, under power lines and landing on sloping ground.
Spec ops pilots will go on and practice on more unusual things like passenger jet wings, tops of buildings and more difficult approaches. As well as having spec ops abseiling out the door etc.
Never have I shot an approach onto a live street setting, at night for an exercise!
The level of talent to maneuver under power lines or landing on a slope is astonishing to me. I cant imagine the urban setting with so many variables to consider. Clearly a ton of precise coordination to conduct that mission without any public scrutiny
It's not too bad after a bit of practice, just trust the instruments and training. Sloping landings you have to be careful, because with a semi articulated rotor head you can easily chop your own tail off!
I was on an approach quite close to the ground when a bit of garbage flew up into the rotor blades, fcuk me it was a struggle to land it! It throws all the precise balance out of the rotors and shakes like mad!
