I took simple B12 tablets for about 3 months last year because my doc had run my labs and B12 was low. It made a big difference and got me where I needed to be, so yes, simple vitamin tablets can be helpful, especially in a deficiency state. Same for my D3 levels but those were capsules with oil. Magnesium tablets can be amazing for lots of uses, better sleep, better regularity. Large doses of Vitamin C in powder form reversed my son's inflammation and sciatica so that we were able to avoid a risky back surgery.
