What is this thread all about?
Just a place for general discussion. A place to unload whats on your mind and talk about anything - personal, health, help needed, achievements, daily highs and daily lows, theories, predictions and what have you.
Does not need to be Q related.
So, been using the app Flowkey to learn piano since September. My problem is that there’s too much re-arranged pop stuff which might be popular with normies but which I don’t personally know or enjoy (what the f@#€k is « Adele »)?
So I cancelled the subscription (will take effect 2 months from now) and found an app called Synthesia in which I can import whatever music I want in MIDI format.
Then I found that website: http://www.piano-midi.de/midi_files.htm
…and look the nice songs you find there: https://youtu.be/csiHLcJZT8U
Since I play piano daily, my blood pressure has dropped 2 points.
Edit: Not far from my Burgundy house, is the one where the Great Alphonse de Lamartine lived. I visited it several times. There’s an evening salon with a piano. Lamartine is said to have spent numerous evenings there with his pals Victor Hugo and Franz Liszt. I guess when they were high on Pouilly Fuissé, Liszt would play such acrobatic masterpieces.🤩
Ooohhh! How neat!! I love music. Do you ever listen to Bireli Legrene? He's a fantastic French guitartist.
I know him, he’s good! But my all times favourite French jazzman is Stéphane Grapelli: https://youtu.be/atfkqXR0l9M
That's nice!! I've heard of him, but haven't listened much. Michel Colombier was fabulous, too, and quintessential 80s.
Did you just start learning piano recently or had you started learning before this?
If you are just starting, I highly recommend getting one of the beginner books from Alfred's. It lets you learn the correct way and also introduce you to a lot of timeless piano tunes.
After that Alfred's also has different books with songs to learn - both classical and pop music.
Been playing rock guitar and bass for 36 years. Also played some keyboard which I usually sequenced using a computer and mouse fix.
I began 10 months ago seriously but without a teacher. I wanted to fill a huge hole in my life: learning the piano. I randomly found some virtuoso playing on r/piano and fell frustrated how that guy was fullfilling his desire to make good music alone.
When I was young, we had a piano but my sister who prclaimed it as hers had forbidden me to even open its deck.
Now I have mine: a Yamaha P-45 and another P-125 in the holiday home.
Hint: set the sensitivity to max otherwise you will always play forte on a real piano.
Thanks for the book links!🤗
My tiny pinkies can't span an octave. That plus Dupuytren's Contracture means that I'll never play piano. :(
What if you use a reduced size keyboard?
