From what I understand, the reserve is to protect us from gas shortages like we had in the 70s. The issue now isn't because of shortages, but rather because of price.
Why would we be unable to replace the reserve by increasing drilling in the US? Hippy tree huggers are pissed off with Biden right now because they believe him selling off the reserve will cause more oil wells to be worked.
And wouldn't that actually help the economy a bit, getting more oil wells up and running? More workers making good money in the oil industry seems like a good thing.
I just don't see why we couldn't replenish the reserve in a reasonable amount of time. What happened to all those untapped oil reserves in the US that was such a big issue a few years ago? Did they vanish?
I think people have this idea that the government should be giving the oil reserve away to us in the form of cheap or free gas or something. That's not what the reserve is for.
It's not an issue of either selling it off to other countries or keeping it and reducing gas prices in the US.
Aren't the tree huggers angry about Biden selling off the reserve because it prompts the oil companies to increase production here? They don't want more wells and more digging, so they're pissed at Biden.
What happened to all those untapped sources of oil that was in the news a few years ago when the argument was that the US could be independent, oil wise?
Normally I would agree with you, however, the way I see it you don't sell something that you desperately need yourself...

It's our strategic reserve. Now we won't have a reserve. Scorched earth, that's the losers plan.
