Or...maybe it's just lens flare while taking a shot of a forest fire with camera pointed towards the sun.

Lens flares are not so exact and cause a lot of colour fade in my experience.

it does point to where the sun is. Look at the shadows. Also, we wouldn't be able to see the beam of a DEW.
