Granted, English is not my first language, but I consider myself quite proficient in it. Unfortunately, I don't know why "All of the sudden" and "I could care less" are wrong...
I probably could have used those phrases myself! Perhaps they are just slang, and I - as you state above - have learned those by imitation?
It could be that some people learn the language more by imitating others than by reading it. Examples could include:
Who would of thought
All of the sudden
I could care less
It's just lazy people picking up words the way they think others are saying them. They're not checking themselves when they see it in print.
