And yet afterwards he hasn't behaved as if it was a white hat operation. In a weird way, this makes total sense: all the machinery of drones and news coverage, set up and primed to run with the story and document their sacrifice to intimidate the masses, but it went wrong- he was impossibly good and successfully defended himself; black hats missed their sacrifice, missed the angry reaction from white victims, and were stuck with a media fire they had steady started. So they cut their losses by going for cash- the fundraising money, and churning the poor kid on the talk show circuit.
