My PC (a brand new build a year ago) was running really fast compared to my old pc, but I expected it to be actually faster. I talked to a PC knowledgeable friend of mine, plus I wanted to mine ETH. He told me to remove all scamming anti-viruses from my PC and to disable Defender, I was very nervous after spending $2,000+ on a beautiful gaming pc. I have not had a single issue, my pc runs so fast even a year later. It has not slowed at all. It restarts within 10-15 seconds (my kid can reach the restart and power buttons... and he's 2, so...). The only reason I notice, is that my mining rig is set to auto load, then power and heat rises, causing my very powerful fans to shift to the fastest speeds, and I hear my pc start cranking out air. Thanks kiddo... (stopped mining after my recent hike in electrical costs (.16 ->.24 per KWH, 50% increase)
CCleaner is good for cleaning the registry, something I use regularly in "tunning up" PCs.
If you're doing things on your computer that opens you to hacking/malware, then even the best AV won't stop it. The best way to stay clean is sensible browsing habits and not clicking unknown links.
Most people grade their rigs by benchmarking, not how fast it recovers from kids power cycling :)
Yes my benchmarks are also amazing. But I’ve noticed when you bog down a system, reset speeds are an easy indicator of a slowing computer. You can easily time that. As fast as I click on things, they load immediately, no lag time. CC cleaner kept finding “issues”. There was only one issue, cccleaner. Windows has its own defragmentation program, which again, most people “should not” need.
100% agree on careful link observations is best practice in computer longevity.
For gaming longevity, I would stray away from any excess programs. If you don’t need it, don’t download it. I’ve had gaming pcs last me years. I only tried to use alternative programs to “speed up my pc” and they only further slowed it (thanks to dangerous downloads in the past. Stupid me). I removed the programs and removed defender and the sketchy downloads, and my pc sped back up. Then I built a 3080ti pc. That is a protected pc in my house now. Very weary of what goes on it and through it.
CCcleaner = scam
Avast = scam
Defender = scam
