I got one hair to split with you, although I agree that the mistreatment of slaves was exaggerated for maximum effect. A hut is still a roof over your head, that you likely made yourself. I would venture a guess that they were happy with a subsistence lifestyle as opposed to a life of forced labor. Personally I would trade a life of fending for myself over a life of servitude. That being said, there were no tractors and the British appetite for the agricultural products of the colonies was a more direct impetus for importing slaves, and it was black Africans that sold their brothers and sisters into it. If any group is mostly to blame, it was the Brits and Africans of that era. Blaming modern, natural-born whites is just plain ignorant.
I am not going to disagree with anything you've stated. You are correct with what the Brits and Africans did.
