I was engaged in preliminary design studies in the late 1970s. Around 1997 I was tapped to edit the (winning) final proposal ($1.4 B contract). Prior to 2010, I conducted mission analysis. Good capability against boosting ballistic missiles. Even better capability inherent in air-to-air engagements with other airplanes. And there is the anti-satellite mission. We never were able to conduct these other missions.
