There used to be a ton of sinkholes, because builders tried to dig and drain. Below Lake Osceola the bedrock is very very deep and on top of that are calcium deposits. The coastal homes have to be built on pylons driven all the way down to bedrock. Anything under land is expected to be calcium and water, or swamp and water, and if you want to dig a basement it would be like a reverse aquarium.

Well I never knew that…but it makes sense.
Up here we have cold frozen ground in the winter and we hold dead bodies until spring thaw before they can be buried.
