I refused to play CNN10 in my classroom! I actually came to my Frens here to get ideas on how to fill that hole. I ended up having all of the students cover topics with multiple sources. We then looked at each source and tried to figure out their bias based on other stories. The students learned more than just topics!
Good idea. Did they catch on to how news stories are copied around?
We reviewed them like commercials. We practiced with Nike, and Ford ads. We looked at who was in the commercial, what did they look like etc. We them figured out their target audience, and what message the add was portraying (nike - run fast). Students were picking up on where politicians gave their speeches, who was in the "shot" with them... Some of the brighter students were able to see racist themes (if blacks make up 10% of the population, why do they make up 50% of this commercial? Why are all of the white people the servers? ) It was great!
Even better than the fake news. Commercials are cold-blooded brainwashing.
Subjecting kids to news is mental rape. Find an old history book and read to them. Shit read the Constitution every day. Why the fuck do schools have a news program as a scheduled curriculum. Espescially CNN. Shame
The MSM - That is true; however, any teacher has to navigate the curriculum. The Social Studies standards require current events. The other teachers in my school used CNN10 to satisfy this requirement. My solution was to bend things as far as I could towards developing critical thinkers. People who question are leas likely to be mislead.
