I understand your concerns. I ignore the media and propaganda of celebrities. I started watching because I love history. I didn’t know it was time travel. That’s not the focus of the show. Scottish & especially the highlanders we’re very superstitious and believed most any of the ancient tales. I think the books do a great job showing this. I don’t see this as witch craft. Maybe pagan, it was everyone centuries ago, even in Christianity.
Basis of story and the reason Claire is a bossy woman. She time jumps from 1945 to 1745. She was a nurse in the war. The men have never been around that curses and won’t be told what to do. I can understand this and that’s one reason I love her character. I see a lot of the “non selfish” sides of Scarlett O’Hara in her, doesn’t help that she looks just like Vivian Leigh.
If you don’t like war, duels, foreign accents and history it’s probably not for you.
I’m not your average female, I’d rather watch medieval fight scenes than the modern cheesy romance flicks.
I’m glad I saw the series before reading the books. If you don’t know Gaelic, French and old Scottish you might have to look up many things.
FYI: lots to of sex & nudity. This couple has a very strong relationship. I guess that’s another reason I can look past her take charge attitude. As soon as they bond into a relationship I don’t see dominance between them. They are equals. Jamie the main character is pretty strong man inside and out. He goes through hell & is still a leader.
I don’t see the Scottish traditions as pagan at all. To me, it’s what the government purposefully took from clans and tribes. They didn’t want us to know what we are capable of, same goes with Claire’s healing and intuitions.
