But wouldn't the DS person who ordered this hear back from his 'cleaner' person that it wasn't the cleaner who did it - they would be as suspicious. I have the same thought on Abe. Wouldn't DS know it wasn't 'themselves' who shot Abe and then would wonder if these people are being sequestered for their own safety?

Good questions. If someone does a hit, they'll want to get paid and lay low for a bit. But I think it's safe to assume the DS isn't working with the brightest people on the planet, and attrition is probably a normal occurrence.
