7700 is the code for General Emergency, as correctly referenced in the post. This could be mechanical or medical.

The main 3 distress codes are:

7700 – Distress or Urgency Condition

7600 – Two-Way Radio Communication Failure

7500 – Air Piracy (Hijacking or Hostile Acts Onboard)
