So I am not a good writer but I feel that I have a story that everyone could learn from, this has helped me tremendously. About a2 years ago when I first realized what was happening, then soon after I was preparing my mins for what was coming. My mind naturally started drifting to my grandparents on both sides and how they survived the Great Depression. Planted a garden, canning, pickling. That sort of thing.. “The Old Ways” right. Then My mom moved and I move into mom a dads house. Old antiques everywhere hanging on the walls in the ceiling. Everywhere. So on the back porch are two stones. I had walked by them thousands of times but never stopped an looked real good. But then one day I did. I picked those things up into my lap, the larger one was shaped kinda like a brown and the smaller fit inside nicely. Then I flipped the large one over and to my surprise was another bowl shape. Now this got my attention big time. So then a few days later I was holding the smaller stone. It is a bit larger than my fist but it felt comfortable holding with one hand. I’m fiddling with it for hours. Then my thumb fell into an invention at the same time that my fingers fit into the correct spots on the other. Wow! A Image pops into my head real clear of an Indian woman on the ground grinding dried foods.. The next day I bought a large food dehydrator ever since I have been drying greens and vegetables and bringing it into powder with an electric blender.I I have been experimenting with this stuff and found that it can be generously sprinkled on top of most anything. It doesn’t have much flavor but is packed with nutrients…. But the most fascinating thing is that I started having large bowel moments.. like scary bowel movements at first. A few weeks went bye I noticed I felt lighter and more energetic. A few month go bye and my potbelly is gone. I am 55 and I work at a sawmill and I can outwork 8 out of 10 of the 25-30 year olds. It like all of that crap that was in me was poisining my body and now it is gone. I thank Jesus for putting that image into my head! He has deffinatly shown me a better way and at the same time a way out of this mess.. Bye the way I eat the most healthy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the planet!

Thanks for sharing fren. I’m nearly 50, eat healthily and outwork all the young fellas on the construction site too! Just like an engine, we’ve gotta run on the best fuel possible.
Wow. Great story. Interesting!
If only we were as smart, determined and strong as our grandparents. Sounds like you come from good stock. I’ve picked up canning again. Two years in a row now. Green beans, corn, tomatoes okra, venison, beef. Chicken will be next.
DO NOT FORGET TO GO AND GET A BUNCH OF SPARE LIDS. you might have enough for a year or two but having enough for five years is a lot more secure. Buy Ball or Kerr jars, the ones from China probably are full of poisons or are very breakable. American made is the way to go. God bless.
Good advice. Ball and Kerr are more expensive but you can count on each and every one working. Never buy anything from Amazon!
I've had better luck with Ball than with Kerr lids, but either are better than cheap Chinese ones. You get what you pay for.
Also a word of warning: if you want to can low-acid foods, (beans, corn, etc.), you need a pressure canner to be safe. A water bath canner doesn't get hot enough to kill botulism in low-acid foods.
Yes, I know "grandma always used a water bath for those," but trust me, you don't want food poisoning. Play it safe, frens.
Canning meat? My folks didn’t do that, doers it work? My folks smoked meat to preserve it
Canning meat does work, but you need to follow the directions or you will poison yourself.
It works. My folks smoked meat too as well as salt cured. I started with stew beef. Don’t ever put too much water into jars or seasoning such as salt! I have put peppers in my beef and venison. As long as you get a solid seal, it’s good until you take take it off.
We've been canning for two years. The wife is in Ernest this year. Got food stores well enough, but she is determined to get us through, bought 2 more cases of quart jars, and I believe she's going back for more.
FYI, home-made strawberry jam is one of the most delicious things ever. Don't ever let people tell you beet sugar tastes the same as cane sugar.
Wow! I am overwhelmed with all the new ideas “old ideas” things to try ways to do this and that… don’t you feel that this getting closer to what God intended for us the whole time?
Agreed. Part of it is we don't believe in going into debt to buy stuff if we can help it. We don't have a lot of fancy toys, but we have enough. Don't get me wrong, it took a lot of bruises to get there (and digging out of 58k in student loans, but we got out!). Were teaching the kids and theyre learning.
I build stuff rather than drop cash when a fancy strikes.
I'm getting my reloading bench together with 2x4s and a solid wood top I got from a friend. I'll get a $600 bench for $100 in wood and fasteners, I learn new skills, and it is exactly how I want it.
I just made my first batch of sauerkraut. Contains vitamins C, K2 and others. Also supposed to be really good for the gut biome.
Yes and the fermenting stuf is so interesting, thank you
what are your favorites? recommendations?
Squash, Zucinni, any greens ,pumpkin turnips carrots. I what I be done. I just mix a little of all of them use it. Like I said, this process preserves te nutrients and the fiber, but there is no taste left. So I don’t have a favorite. But what I do most is put a couple teaspoons of water in a bowl an d add add a teaspoon of mix stir it a little and let it soak up the water then add eggs nd scramble them, Green eggs😀
Thanks!
