The way I look at it is, the good guys had a timeline, moves and countermoves were made altering the timeline and it'll happen when it happens. Not much else we can do about it. Those moves and countermoves probably include threatening/trying to unleash diseases, start wars, nuclear events, etc. They take weeks and months to maneuver around.
