I have an additional take on how we respond. This is a fine response, but I think that he can even acknowledge that what he said is offensive. I mean, isn't calling someone "fat and ugly" an insulting comment? he could respond, "yes, I would call my remarks VERY offensive. That was my full intention when referring to these offensive demons." ~ something like that.
