Yeah there are more than one type. The egotists that you described would have to be delusional, because they could test their value in the private sector and find that they can’t make anything near as much as they make in government. They’re probably miserable because reality has a bad habit of interrupting. The guilt-stricken ones I described would have more realistic self image.
