OK, having actually looked into this a little bit, it's less "Truman Show" and more; take every dystopian nightmare sci-fi book and movie ever made, cram them all into Ring World, make that monstrosity a reality in the middle of the desert, then shove all the useless eaters into it.

Then feed all the useless eaters "Soylent Green."
