I just don't like them. I don't know if it's years of stuff like Word and XL use or what, or even if subconsciously there's some kind of negative-emotion component (I get cloudy-day blahs easily for example) or what. I find light backgrounds easier on the eyes for text/code etc as well.
🤷♂️
PS - wow I actually had to pick a color once I found the "shrug" emoji - do they not get that this shit is racist? The yellow guy isn't a fucking chinaman, it's generic instead of proclaiming my god damn race! Ugggggh. I seriously feel funny when people pick a "real" color for things like this, thumbs-up, etc. Stone the bloody crows....
Edit: bonus round - it was defaulted to "Black" initially.
your suprachiasmatic nucleus hates day mode, esp at the wrong times of the day/night cycle. For me its always 100% dark mode, plus blue blocking filter glasses and app filter, and add red and UV lights to my computer station to add in a little of what my retina is missing but expecting from fake light sources indoors in front of a screen. Circadian biology is a big deal.
There are several factors that impact our biological clocks when it comes to light:
Time of day
Light frequencies present or absent
Intensity
Flicker amount (different bulbs or screens with different quality power sources affect this one even if we don't sense it)

I gather you are not using a 65 inch TV (linux) then.
65 inches of pure white is like the movie "Sunshine" where they are close to the sun.
It is so bright it could actually push objects away from the TV.
Edit:- Updooted for carboard box on the head Pepe!
