I recommend watching the series called Knightfall.

Gives a decent primer on the subject.

Essentially they formed to protect the bloodline of Jesus, and we're successful for centuries.

Then the crazy king of France conspired with the Vatican to slaughter them. He killed all of them.

There is no doubt that the knights still had a contingency plan.

I have a hunch they are what we now call PLVS VLTRA.

If so, Tesla and GEOTUS (was) are members.
