Almost makes for a compelling argument for generational trauma... docility and unquestioning submission to tyrannies is the downstream result after the years of being conquered, humiliated, and the original poster children for the carrot and stick welfare state. Similar for many (not all) Mexicans since that "nation" was functionally one giant slave colony for 4 centuries before full independence.
