it's not even the confederate flag, it's their battle flag.
And they weren't even fighting for slavery, they were fighting for southern sovereignty against massive federal overreach. They waged war like gentlemen, with some of the finest generals the world has ever scene, and they lost.
Imagine if they could see how they've been drug through the historical mud.
OK, I'm a Yankee from NY state. I am not bothered at all by the Confederate flag. It is a flag. It has no power to harm us. The war has been over for more than a century. What is the problem? If I were a Southerner, I would probably like the Confederate flag. It is a symbol of the South. Does it promote slavery? No. Is about the mythic "white supremacy", I don't know, but the flag doesn't seem to refer to that. So its a flag. If a black person flies a Black Panther flag, does it bother me? No. Flags are flag. That's what they are. They have no power at all. Are they rallying points. Yes, sometimes. But I wouldn't lose any sleep over that concept. Just watch where the trouble is. Don't look for flags.
